REGARDING RECENT INFORMATION RELEASED CONCERNING U.S. GOVERNMENT LISTS

In light of the information issued by the U.S. government’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) mentioning specific individuals, the Government of the State of Baja California clarifies the following:

FIRST. Governor Marina del Pilar Avila Olmeda is legally divorced from Carlos Torres Torres. The only interest they share is the well-being of their son.

SECOND. The Governor does not appear on the list of individuals sanctioned by OFAC.

THIRD. The Governor holds no bank accounts or real estate abroad. Her assets have been declared to Mexican authorities.

FOURTH. The Governor has instructed the Office of the Chief Administrative Officer (Oficialía Mayor) to verify whether the companies identified by OFAC have held contracts with the State Government and to forward the relevant files to the Secretariat of Anti-Corruption and Good Governance for action in accordance with the law.

FIFTH. The individuals named must address their situation directly with the competent authorities, who are responsible for reporting on the investigations. The State Government will not speak on their behalf and will remain focused on the security, development, and well-being of Baja California.
