Former Major League Baseball star Vinicio Castilla inaugurated new baseball fields at the Texcoco Lake Ecological Park (PELT) as part of the Mexican Government’s efforts to promote wellness and physical activity among the population. The initiative was carried out through the National Water Commission (Conagua) and the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS).
Castilla led a baseball clinic at the Texcoco Lake Ecological Park (PELT), which—like all activities held at the park—is completely free of charge
Together with children and young athletes, the Mexican baseball legend threw the ceremonial first pitch to officially inaugurate the new baseball fields at PELT.
After the opening ceremony, training sessions began, during which Vinicio taught basic baseball fundamentals, including batting, pitching, and fielding techniques, as well as coordination and teamwork skills.
During the event, representing Conagua Director General Efraín Morales López, PELT Coordinator Vannesa Bohórquez López emphasized that work will continue with associations and youth leagues to ensure the park remains one of the most important in the country.

She also highlighted that the sports clinics are 100% free and are part of a program promoted by PELT whose objective is to encourage physical activity among children and youth in the Valley of Mexico, contributing to their overall development and the strengthening of healthy habits within the community.
Vinicio Castilla stated that he greatly enjoyed the experience, especially the opportunity to teach new generations of baseball players and share some of the knowledge and experience gained throughout his professional career
For his part, IMSS Sports Director Héctor García congratulated the athletes and their families for choosing sports and for their interest in learning from one of the greatest players. He affirmed that these generations will help transform Mexico for the better, always with the support of President Claudia Sheinbaum.
During the event, dozens of participants had the opportunity to receive direct instruction from one of the country’s top baseball figures, who shared his professional experience and technical knowledge, creating a space for learning and community engagement in a safe and accessible environment.
The PELT sports program continues to establish itself as a strategic initiative for the use of public spaces with a social focus, integrating activities that strengthen health, community interaction, and social cohesion. These actions reflect the Mexican Government’s commitment to reducing barriers to sports access and promoting social inclusion through public spaces.

Finally, Conagua invited the general public to visit the Texcoco Lake Ecological Park and participate in the various sports, cultural, and recreational activities offered free of charge at this public space. Admission is free, and the park is open Tuesday through Sunday from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
