Robert Redford, a great actor and 1070’s silver screen heartthrob, passed away in the early hours of September 16 while he was sleeping, according to reports he just turned 89 las August 18th
The «Golden Boy» of the 1970s is gone, leaving behind a space that will be hard or impossible to fill
There was no mention of any illness whatsoever, and his death has deeply impacted the entire world, as he was an actor, filmmaker, producer and he set up the now worldwide famous Sundance Film Festival.
Hollywood legend, cinematic heartbreaker, actor, director, but also a liberal political activist, Redford became a legendary figure who began his career in the 1960s and worked hard to become an iconic figure of the film industry.
A brilliant actor in films like Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Sting, All the President’s Men, and The Way We Were, he was also a writer, producer, and director.
The cinema of the 1970s owes much to the film star and environmental advocate Robert Redford, who passed away on September 16, 2025.
He won two Oscars — one for Best Director for Ordinary People (1981) and an Honorary Oscar in 2002. He was also nominated for Best Actor in The Sting and Best Director for Quiz Show, although many of his most memorable performances were never recognized with an Academy nomination much less an award.
Robert Redford was historically known for his progressive and liberal political stances, generally aligned with the Democratic Party in the United States, though he always tried to remain independent and focused more on issues than on party lines.
An indispensable and relevant figure in understanding the social power many Hollywood figures attain, Redford stood out for his liberal political views and messaging in many of the films he directed, such as All the president Men, Lanbs for lions, Three Days of the Condor, The Milagro Beanfield War among others.
He shared the screen with some of the biggest names in cinema, including Barbra Streisand, Paul Newman, Dustin Hoffman, Susan Sarandon, Faye Dunaway, Brad Pitt and many others. In his early days, he also acted in television series such as The Untouchables, The Twilight Zone, Dr. Kildare, among others.
