Mexicali PD officer, Eleazar Estrada Inzunza, saved the life of a child, after applying the Heimlich maneuver, to a 3-year-old boy who suffered suffocation after ingesting a piece of toy known as «Lego’s», in addition to taking him to the hospital to receive medical attention, and minutes later he was reported stable, Mexicali PD reported in a press release.
The incident occurred around 12:20 p.m. on Sunday, May 22, when Officer Estrada arrived to the facilities of the Center for Attention to Domestic Violence in Mexicali, where medical intervention was urgently requested since the infant presented obstruction of the respiratory pathways and was in danger of suffocation, so Officer Estrada Inzunza immediately transferred him to a hospital.
Through the radio frequency, he requested the assistance of back up and patrol units to provide emergency accompaniment on the road to the hospital, and once they got to the medical unit, officer Estrada realized that the minor’s health condition worsened, he immediately applied the Heimlich maneuver, according to first aid protocols, getting the infant to expel a piece of plastic and regain his breath.
Once stabilized, the boy was admitted to the hospital for specialized medical evaluation; according to the information provided by Mexicali PD, the boy was playing with plastic pieces known as «Lego’s», when suddenly and unattended by his parents he put one of them in his mouth and the incident occurred, the timely intervention of officer Estrada Inzunza was essential to save his life.
