Insecurity and public safety crisis are a fact in Mexicali, and they keep worsening, Wednesday afternoon, the area known as Mexicali Golden Zone, was the site of a drive-by shooting, where a teenager shot a white BMW with a man and a woman onboard, and then flee the spot, but he was detained a few minutes after this happened.
It was about 3:30, when the car, parked in front of a well-known pharmacy in the intersection of Carranza Avenue and CETYS Blvd., received six shots, the attack aimed to hurt a 37 year old man from Tijuana and a 26 year old woman from Mexicali, who were inside the vehicle, the shooter immediately fled the premises.
National Guard and Mexicali PD patrol cars, got to the spot almost immediately so they were able to pull over the car where a teenager, by the name of Sergio Iván “X” was arrested (Mexican criminal Law forbids to mention any alleged criminal surname until he/she is found guilty and sentenced).
The youngster had a nine-millimeter automatic handgun, and there were nine shots fired in the site of the attack, he was taken away by the National Guard, since the possession of such a weapon is a felony and a Federal criminal offense, the motive of his violent actions are unknown.
Besides the white BMW, there was a Ford Mustang and a Toyota, which also received shots from the crazed gunman, and that is all the information that Mexicali PD issued, according to unofficial sources, Sergio Iván was taken to the Federal Attorney´s offices in Mexicali, and he will be turned to a Federal Court.
