A violent confrontation between criminal groups in the early hours of Monday on the Transpeninsular Highway, north of San Quintín, left seven people dead, including the alleged plaza chief of the Sinaloa Cartel, reportedly known as “Sierra.”
The shootout occurred around 1:00 a.m., near the Jaramillo and Díaz Ordaz ejidos, at kilometer 140 of the highway. According to 911 emergency reports, multiple gunshots were heard, prompting a swift response from law enforcement
At the scene, two vehicles were found:
- A white pickup truck with black stripes, no license plates, and a report of being stolen. It was riddled with bullet holes and contained four deceased individuals: two men and two women.
- A Jeep vehicle completely burned out, with three charred bodies inside — two men and one woman — along with a firearm.
Unofficial sources suggest the incident was an ambush targeting “Sierra,” the alleged Sinaloa Cartel leader in San Quintín, who was reportedly killed along with his bodyguards.
Authorities recovered over 1,000 shell casings at the scene, highlighting the intensity of the clash. All the victims were residents of San Quintín — a region once known for its peaceful and productive community life, which has recently been shaken by a wave of violence linked to organized crime, tragically claiming the lives of both adults and minors.
