For baseball, the Caribbean Series is one of the most important events, where Mexico, Venezuela, the Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico generally participate. These Latin countries contribute the most players to the Major Leagues in the U.S. After 14 years, the series returns to Mexicali, but without the enthusiasm and anticipation it had 14 years ago…
In 2025, it’s not the same, as it was in 2009, it seems that the organizers are failing in the promotion. There are differences between the Caribbean Series in Mexicali in 2009 and this year.
After 15 years, the comparison between that and the current baseball competition is inevitable. It appears that the event’s communication team has maintained a very low profile, and it has been challenging for Mexicali reporters and journalists to get accredited to cover the games and the atmosphere of the major event.
Perhaps, as is usually the case, the organizers pay more attention to national (i.e., from Mexico City) and international media than to local coverage.
Unlike the organization of the 2009 Caribbean Series, local media have been «relegated,» so to speak, but this is a common attitude among the organizers of such events—they are arrogant towards the local press.
Another detail is the streets of Mexicali, especially the area around the Aguilas’ Nest, which were prepared months in advance in 2009. Many businesses and venues, from there to the Hotel Zone, were decorated and the streets were ready to receive visitors.
Now, there are last-minute efforts to give a «quick fix» to the roads. The parking issue should also be a concern, especially because of the migrants deported by Trump, as a shelter for them has been set up on FEX grounds intended to serve as parking for visitors of the Caribbean Series 2025.

Hopefully, it will be a baseball success despite the trashy public relations, organization flaws, the press office of the Caribbean Series looking down to local press and the bad shape of streets and the frantic efforts to repair them in the past few days.
