United States not responsible for violence in Sinaloa: Ken Salazar

Just days before the presidential transition, violence in Mexico is evident and cannot be hidden, yet the government continues a narrative that downplays the seriousness of the situation in several states, perhaps in preparation for handing over the baton to the next administration.

Detractors and supporters of the 4T (Fourth Transformation) offer arguments, claiming the country is either worse or better than ever. However, the facts cannot be ignored—violence and disorder in public safety persist, and in recent days, it has erupted in Sinaloa, likely as an obvious act of retribution, following events that occurred in Texas weeks ago.

The end-of-term violence issue in Sinaloa (mainly) and throughout Mexico is not the responsibility of the United States, assured U.S. Ambassador Ken Salazar, in response to the comments made by President López Obrador. However, Salazar did not mention him by name in his statement and spoke of a future of collaboration.

Ken Salazar expressed hope that bilateral security efforts would continue under Claudia Sheinbaum’s government. At a press conference in Chihuahua, he reiterated, “What is happening in Sinaloa is not the fault of the United States.

The reality is that there is a problem of insecurity and violence.” Washington is a «co-responsible» party in the violence crisis affecting Sinaloa and other Mexican states. «It cannot be understood how the massacres we see in different places can be the responsibility of the United States,» said Ken Salazar.
