There are many touristic wonders in Mexico, from the wonderful colonial cities of Guanajuato, San Luis Potosí, Querétaro and others, to the amazing ruins in Teotihuacan, Monte Alban, La Venta, Palenque, Chichen Itzá or Uxmal, just to name a few, daydream beaches and beautiful mountain landscapes, there are many things for tourists to enjoy in Mexico.
One of the most beautiful and diverse places to spend a while touring around desert, mountains, forests and beautiful seashore places is the Baja California peninsula which includes two states: Baja California and Baja California Sur, it is the latter where Los Cabos is, one of the most popular vacation places among the rich and famous.
An adventure through Southern Baja California would take you from the beaches of Los Cabos, through the Sierra de la Laguna Mountains with stops at quaint villages, and ends with more beaches and water activities in the delightful city of La Paz. Although each stop is located in the same state, you will find each has its own vibe — from the excitement of Cabo, through sleepy villages, to end in the quiet beauty of La Paz, leaving you wondering if you did not miss a turn and wind up in the Caribbean.
The straight route, along Highway 19, is the coastal road-more-traveled, this off-the-beaten-path adventure will immerse you in the sights and culture of the Baja Peninsula, seeing an intimacy many visitors miss by taking the highway, so they really deprive themselves of one of the planet´s most beautiful views.
Route 1, takes people on mountain roads through the Sierra de la Laguna with a glimpse of the ocean near Los Barriles, where there is a super fancy, luxurious and exclusive housing complex, where you can buy land and built your own mansion or take a look at the real estate market that offers “out-of-this-world” vacation houses and manors. This mountain drive has many curves, so caution is recommended.
Tourist may want to try both routes, but many people recommend returning via Highway 19 if they are driving back to Cabo. That way, you can experience both routes through Southern Baja. You can make the trip from Cabo to La Paz in about 3 hours, but instead of driving straight through, make it a road trip and stop in these six beautiful cities.
