The arrest of Víctor Alfonso “N”, Mexicali PD cop que is accused of involvement in forced disappearances, drug dealing and other crimes, shook the people of Mexicali since he turned out to be a municipal police officer. A few hours after his detention, another officer was also apprehended who, it seems, had also been involved in illicit activities, ad I that same afternoon another officer was taken in custody.
Three Mexicali cops are detained and in custody, they are accused of participating in ilegal activities such as kidnapping
This comes to shake the tranquility of Mexicali residents, and they have enough reason to fear those who (in theory) should be protecting society. Instead, these three officers are accused of carrying out “kidnappings” and even drug dealing. This gives more reasons to fear than to feel protected by them. However, Mexicali Public Security Directorate (DSPM) issued a press release, saying this will go to the last consequences.
The DSPM stated that the first individual was a municipal officer but clarified that this person had stopped being part of the Mexicali Municipal Police at the beginning of September, as he voluntarily resigned and the resignation was accepted by the Directorate, but it seems the other two cops were active when arrested.
Days before resignation, Víctor Alonso “N” had many absences and unpaid suspensions, which are under investigation, so he was also not regularly part of the operational work of the police force, according to the DSPM clarification. According to Prosecutor María Elena Andrade, early on October 1st, another officer was detained.
These events, along with the arrogance and aggression with which many Mexicali municipal police officers act towards traffic offenders, simply sow fear and distrust—if not resentment—towards police officers who, instead of “protecting and serving” society, attack it mercilessly and use it to commit crimes. Is there more fear than respect for the police in Mexicali?
