An Earthquake measured at Mw 8.8 hit east, of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Russia, resulting of shallow reverse faulting, is the largest seismic event to occur globally since the 2011 Mw 9.1 Tohoku, Japan earthquake, making it the XXI Century biggest earthquake and it ranks among the top ten largest earthquakes to occur globally since 1900.
There was a Tsunami alert issued but, again, as of right now there have been no reports of alarming or dangerous wave activity in the Pacific shores.
There were more than 50 seismic events prior to the Mw 8.8 all of them with readings higher than 5.0, including an Mw 7.4 as of July 20 and other three of Mw 6.6, and after the big one 24 more which were above Mw 5.0, it seems movement hasn´t stopped, there have been no casualties reported as of now.
