Mexicali PD & CBP work together t protect immigrants in «Operation Mirror»

The «Mirror Operation» strategy, a binational action between EL Centro, Ca. and Mexicali, BC, aims to protect integrity, prevent loss of life, and rescue migrants who run risks and danger to cross the border searching for the “American Dream”

Operation Mirror has been deployed in desert areas of the United States and Mexico border region, aiming to protect immigrants, an endeabvor undertaken by the Mexicali Municipal Public Security Director (DSPM) and the El Centro, California Sector of the Border Patrol, according to a press release issued by Mexican authorities.

DSPM and Mexicali PD Director, Pedro Ariel Mendívil accompanied the Border Patrol on their annual walk in the «Valley of the Skeletons,» highlighting the importance of a joint response to the urgent need to mitigate the risks faced by migrants crossing desert areas between Mexico and the United States.

This collaboration brings together resources, knowledge, and personnel from both entities and implements measures for the prevention, search, and rescue of migrants in the desert, according to the Government of Mexicali led by Mayor Norma Bustamante, who seeks to strengthen international relations in security and prevention.

Since its inception, the operation has enabled the location and rescue of numerous migrants, providing medical assistance and support for their safety. The operations include patrols, the use of advanced technology to detect movements, and the installation of support points with water and first aid in key desert areas.

Director Mendívil emphasized the importance of this collaboration to address a humanitarian problem in the region. He noted that the main objective is to protect lives and ensure that migrants receive the necessary help in emergencies.

Gregory K. Bovino, Chief of the El Centro Sector Border Patrol, praised the commitment and efficiency of the operation, highlighting the importance of binational cooperation to address the challenges of migratory journeys in desert areas.

Both entities reiterate their commitment to the safety and well-being of all people in the region, working on innovative and effective strategies that save lives and strengthen cross-border cooperation.
