PASA arrived in Mexicali between 2007 and 2010, a company selling the idea that it would solve the problem of the city´s Garbage Transfer Center. This company has had a dark history throughout the northern states of the country, where it has failed to solve waste management problems thus creatong much serious issues in those cities where it has been operating all along MEX-USA borders.

This company is supposedly responsible for operating the domestic waste transfer center; however, its facilities do not meet minimum standards for safety, sustainability, and cleanliness, which is not a new issue for Mexicali but somehow, PASA has has remained unpunished despite all the Ecological Law violations.

The most important thing is that it does not work efficiently, PASA operates without respecting international standards and (agaim) it is sending a whole lot of toic waate and contamination to the Salton Sea area which may also cause serious environmental problems in that Calidornia desert area, which borders with Mexico.

All of this came to public light thanks to the report by @MexicaliSinFiltros and @Canal66, which exposed the company’s total negligence in handling such a delicate matter as domestic waste, and even causing an international problem since it is polluting a Bi-National basin.

PASA has caused severe soil contamination and a pollution problem that has already advanced to the point of reaching the Xochimilco Lagoon, part of a damaged wetland system whch independent as well as Gov efforts have tried to save, it is even labeled as a RAMSAR Wetland.

Ramsar Convention, international treaty for conservation and sustainable use of wetlands was signed in Ramsar, Iran, in 1971aiming to safekeep wetlands recognized for their ecological importance, biodiversity, and value to humanity, signatory countries commit to maintaining the wetlands ecological characteristics through rational and sustainable use.

This lagoon is part of a three small water bodies which form a wetland, which is the beginning of the New River (Río Nuevo) that flows into the United States, carrying toxic waste and garbage all the way to the salton Sea around tbe Westmorland area in California.

Could this company also cause Mexico problems with the Americans due to non-compliance with environmental regulations? Is it fair that PASA has been operating in this manner for years without anyone doing anything to control and solve the problem caused by PASA?

The Northern States of Chihuahua and Coahuila have also had very bad experiences with PASA, which, inexplicably, has not been deprived of contracts and keeps on operating as if nothing happened.
