All set for Dos Mares Sports Fishing Tournament next weekend in San Felipe

A guaranteed prize total of 500 thousand pesos in cash and sports fishing equipment will be the main attractive at the First “2 Mares International Sports Fishing Tournament”, which will take place next weekend in San Felipe, promoted by the Secretary of Fishing and Aquaculture of Baja California (SEPESCA BC), led by Alma Rosa García Juárez.

The official sports fishing calendar for Baja California, set up by SEPESCA BC, schedules this competition to take place on Friday, June 14, and Saturday, June 15, expecting a big turnout of national and international sports fishing enthusiasts, who will gather in the beautiful town of San Felipe.

The head of SEPESCA BC highlighted that, in addition to offer more attractive prizes, the intention of this new proposal is to yield benefits for the communities of the recently created coastal municipalities, touching on San Felipe in the Gulf of California, and San Quintín in the Pacific Ocean, the latter on August 30 and 31.

She said that sports fishing is an important activity, as it represents hotel occupancy, and restaurant consumption, as well as demand for goods and services to create an economic spread that will reactivate the economy of San Felipe and many families that live in the port.

On Saturday, the signal for the departure of boats is scheduled for 5:30 AM, at the Launch Ramp of the San Felipe pier, while the opening of the scale will be at 2:30 PM, and the closing of the weigh-in at 4:30 PM.

This year, the agency is supporting a calendar of 13 tournaments in various locations with a sports fishing vocation in the state, including Bahía de los Ángeles, Isla de Cedros, Esteban Cantú, the port of Ensenada, and the El Carrizo Dam in Tecate and Abelardo Rodríguez Dam in Tijuana.

Regarding the 2 Mares Sport Fishing Tournament program, it was mentioned that on Friday, June 14, the registration of competitors will begin at 2:00 PM, while the inauguration will be at 7:15 PM, followed by the captains’ meeting, on the main esplanade of the San Felipe boardwalk.

Finally, the award ceremony is set for 7:15 PM at the same San Felipe boardwalk, where the winning team will receive prizes of 200 thousand pesos; the second place will take 100 thousand pesos in prizes; and 60 thousand pesos for the third.

Additionally, prizes of 30 thousand pesos are considered for those who win in the catch and release modality, as well as 10 thousand pesos for the top places in the women’s, children’s, and best captain categories.
