David «N», AKA «Cabo 20» (Corporal 20), alleged intellectual author of the murder of Tijuana photojournalist, Margarito Martínez Esquivel, was arrested in Mexico´s Northeastern State, Nuevo León, thanks to an inter-institutional task force between the Baja California and Nuevo León State Attorney General’s Offices, the National Defense Secretariat ( SEDENA that is the Army), the National Guard (GN) and the National Intelligence Center (CNI), according to statements by Governor Marina del Pilar Avila and State Attorney Ricardo Carpio.
The work of the so called “security board” in Baja California, within the framework of the strategy of the Governments of Mexico and Baja California, resulted in a high level intelligence operation and coordination among the State Investigation Agency (AEI) of the Attorney General of the State of Baja California, elements of the National Guard and Special Forces of the Mexican Army of the Secretariat of National Defense (SEDENA).
Carpio, Baja California State Attorney, explained that these intelligence actions led to the successful location and identification of David «N», known by the alias of «Cabo 20», whom the intelligence institutions identified as one of the main generators of violence in Baja California, for crimes such as homicide, deprivation of liberty (kidnapping), disappearance of persons, drug related crimes, «narcomenudeo» which is drug dealing at street level, as well as other illicit acts for which it was imperative to act to guarantee citizens security and to recover peace in Baja California.
Carpio Sánchez explained that the operations carried out in Nuevo León continue, since, in the process of capturing this important objective, several of his accomplices were also arrested. In addition, others are being chased.
This arrest, said Mr. Carpio, means a great success for Mexican State institutions, as well as for the intelligence agencies involved in this operation.
David «N», «Cabo 20», is being investigated, as alleged intellectual author pf Margarito´s murder, in the Tijuana photojournalist, a crime that was perpetrated on January 17, 2022, in Camino Verde, Tijuana.
According to the investigations, there were allegedly several publications in media outlets and social networks, in which Cabo 20’s face was shown as well as several of his accomplices and were disseminated all over the WEB, which led to the annoyance of the subject in question
He thought that Margarito might have leaked such information, and for that, they held him accountable. However, said Carpio Sánchez, that information was false, because Margarito Martínez never did such a thing.
He pointed out that investigations continue, and he is in communication with federal authorities and of the State of Nuevo León, to carry out the necessary processes, regarding the results of the operations carried out in that entity.
“The Attorney General of the State of Baja California endorses its commitment to security and justice for citizens; and we will continue striving to obtain better results, we appreciate and recognize the true and real support of the Government of Mexico and the Government of our State to face these great challenges through its various institutions such as the Secretariat of National Defense (SEDENA) , Federal Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), Secretary of the Navy (SEMAR), National Intelligence Center (CNI), National Guard (GN), Secretary of Citizen Security of Baja California (SSCBC), Attorney General of the Republic ( FGR), State Prosecutors within the framework of national coordination, as well as the security corporations of the different municipalities”, concluded Carpio Sánchez.
