Tijuana, Mexicali and Tecate, will receive about 1.2 million vaccines, a donation from the US Government, projected as follows: Tijuana 700 thousand 913 doses, Mexicali 350 thousand 269 and Tecate 40 thousand doses, according to a press release by Baja California secretary of Health, Oscar Perez.

Mexicali, is the city with the highest growth in positive Covid-19 cases, so activities might be restricted soon, if the trend keeps on growing, said Doctor Perez Rico, who also mentioned that the vaccines donated by the United Sates, will be applied to population between 18 and 39 years of age, living in any of the three afore mentioned cities.

Pérez Rico said that the vaccine is from Johnson & Johnson, and it the program will supply millions of vaccines to 40 municipalities all along the Mexico-US border, so it is quite feasible that the crossing booths and bridges might open soon.

Border crossing for non-residents of the US has been suspended since March 2021, the re-opening would bring a big boost to the binational border town economies and according to Perez Rico, this vaccine donation will allow Baja California to reach the so-called new normality sooner than expected.
