CETYS Campus Mexicali students won 2nd place in NASA´s robotics competition

The new normal came with endless challenges and adaptation needs, which are overcome with enthusiasm, dedication, conviction and vocation, and this is how the robotics team of the School of Engineering of CETYS University Campus Mexicali faces it, FoxRobotics, second place in the SpaceApps Challenge, an event organized by NASA, world class and which, due to health restrictions, was virtual.

“It was a peculiar experience, unknown to us. Although it was virtual, it did not take away an ounce of the emotion of participating in such a large and renowned event, not to mention that this special modality served to improve remote work skills in innovation projects, «he said. Gabriel Trigo, FoxRobotics General Coordinator, 7th grade student. Semester of Electronic Cybernetic Engineering of the CETYS Campus Mexicali, who are also robotics enthusiasts.

During the 48-hour duration of the robotics competition which was held in the format of a hackathon event, the creative, logical and decisive capacity of the participants was put to the test, demonstrating preparation and technical skills for programming and pitch development, acquired at FoxRobotics.

Four teams formed by members of FoxRobotics registered as participants in the SpaceApps Challenge from October 2 to 4, with Chihuahua as the host city, the group that obtained second place in the Confront category facing the Spot That Fire V3.0 challenge was AESIR, made up of Elizabeth López and Mario Guevara, 3rd. Renewable Energy Engineering semester, and Alejandro Mendoza, from the 3rd. Mechatronics Engineering semester and Mario Flores, external guest and another rbotics future expert.

The project was called Despite The Fire, a development capable of assisting in the prediction, detection, assistance and recovery of communities vulnerable to forest fires around the world, as they were able to distinguish themselves among the participants, presenting an innovative solution to reduce the problems raised.
