The Mexican national team’s «wunderkind»—who captured the world’s attention during this tournament—is staying for another season in Tijuana with Xolos, the club where he developed as a homegrown talent. Born in Chiapas, he has now become a national and global icon.

Manchester, Liverpool, and even Real Madrid are among the names mentioned regarding «Morita’s» future—a player who, after Pelé, is the youngest to debut in a World Cup. However, Gil is staying at his soccer home, Estadio Caliente, for at least one more tournament, confirmed Xolos owner Jorge Hank Rohn.

Gilberto Mora’s participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup showcased a rising young talent; given his age, he will continue for another season with Club Xoloitzcuintles, said Hank Rohn. He acknowledged foreign interest in signing the player but noted, «We will still have him for a few more months.»

He expressed great satisfaction regarding the Iranian team’s stay—not only for their use of the home team’s facilities but also for the significance of having a World Cup squad based in Tijuana, where they experienced the warmth of the local people and left with a highly positive impression.

«The best part of all was that the whole world turned its eyes to Tijuana and discovered the hospitality, kindness, and excellent hosting qualities that characterize its residents,» he concluded.
