Anonymous audio recordings have been going around in the Internet, among residents of Ensenada, mentioning commercial beverages (sodas or soft drinks) that allegedly have caused intoxication and health damage to consumers, and they are nothing but FAKE NEWS, according to information issued by the Protection Against Sanitary Risks State Commission (COEPRIS) of Baja California.
COEPRIS asked the public not to believe nor distribute these fake news and false alerts via the WhatsApp application (or any other for that matter) without first checking facts with official information, verified by health authorities in order to avoid false alarm and panic among the population of Ensenada and elsewhere in the State.
There are no cases of patients having been hospitalized or outbreaks of disease due to this alleged cause, assured COEPRIS in a press release, so it urged citizens to stop chains of misinformation and remain attentive to official communications from the Commission, in order not to make a problem where there is nothing to worry about.
Additionally, people are encouraged to follow the official social media of the State Health Department and COEPRIS Baja California.
COEPRIS recommends people to approach these false messages by considering that they are usually anonymous, with panic-inducing discourse, not backed by official alerts or a reference where information veracity can be verified or checked, and reiterated that only health institutions can issue such alerts.
To file complaints or request information, you can call (686) 557 01 58 in Mexicali, (664) 608 00 75 in Tijuana, and (646) 175 70 03 in Ensenada from Monday to Friday, from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.
