A lynx cub, a wild cat species , was found on the outskirts of Mexicali, wandering on a road , on the west side of the city and it was rescued and taken to the “Bosque de la Ciudad” Mexicali city´s public park, which incudes a Zoo, where the little one will stay, according to a press release issued by City Hall communication office.

The small feline, belonging to the Lynx species that was wandering aimlessly along a stretch on the Tijuana-Tecate highway just outside Mexicali, was reported by concerned citizens and the authorities of PROFEPA (Environment Attorney) and staff form Bosque de la Ciudad, came to the rescue of the lynx.

The little lynx was immediately transferred to the Bosque de la Ciudad Zoo’s veterinarian clinic, where he was given medical attention and care by veterinarians. It seems that the little cat will remain as a guest at the Zoo, perhaps permanently.

Lynx is a genus of carnivorous mammals of the family Felidae, colloquially known as lynxes. Four species are known, characterized by their medium size, strong legs, long ears, short tail and more or less mottled body. All species live exclusively in the Northern Hemisphere, in Eurasia and North America (where they appear to originate).

The so-called African lynx (Caracal caracal), which lives in Africa and much of Central and Western Asia, is actually a poorly related feline that bears some external similarities with representatives of the genus Lynx as a result of evolutionary convergence, such as its tail. , exceptionally short (little more than a simple stump).

The large ears of these felines, crowned by long tufts of black hair at the tips, serve to increase their already great hearing. They also have characteristic tufts of long hair on their cheeks.
