La Paz, Baja California Sur.- The Ministry of Health (SSA) in Baja California Sur (BCS) has applied, 123 thousand vaccines against influenza, from October 2017 to date.

According to Dr. Victor George Flores, head of the SSA in BCS, with this number of protections provided, the state presents an advance of over 70 percent of the goal established by the Vaccination Campaign Against Seasonal Influenza 2017- 2018

At the moment, 10 cases of influenza have been confirmed; six in Los Cabos and four in La Paz, no casualties reported though.

George Flores reiterated that seniors, pregnant women, children from six months and up to five years of age, as well as people with diabetes, hypertension, obesity or cardiovascular diseases, are in risk, so they need to go to the public health units as soon as possible to get vaccinated.

Dr. Victor George Flores enlisted the following preventive measures to avoid this condition:

  • Wash your hands frequently with soap and water.
  • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze and throw it in the trash after you use it.
  • After coughing or sneezing, don’t touch your eyes, nose or mouth, since the germs could spread that way.
  • Avoid shaking hands or kissing, as you could be in contact with an infected individual,
  • Avoid crowded places; share food, drinks, plates, glasses or cutlery,
  • Don’t leave home in case of respiratory disease symptoms
