Due to temperature decrease, shelters are now closed in Mexicali

Sep 26, 2017

As Autumn arrives to Mexicali, there is a sensitive decrease in temperature, and therefore, the Municipal Civil Protection Unit determined that it was no longer necessary that the temporary shelters authorized by the Municipal DIF to remain open.

According to the DIF staff, due to the fact that temperatures no longer represent a risk for the vulnerable population, Thursday September 21 was the last day the shelters would operate this year.

Without specific data, it was reported that more than 2,000 homeless people were granted care. The shelters also welcomed families that did not have electricity or air conditioning at home.

It is noteworthy that this year the municipal authority opened three shelters: the “Crea Cultura” shelter in Colonia Guajardo; another one in the Center for Integral Human Development at Kilometer 43; and one more in Benito Juárez.
