  ALFREDO AZCARATE EDITOR Baja California health authorities and Baja Californian medics, know how to attack Rickets (mortal disease) and figures show that we are winning the battle according to Governor Kiko Vega statements during the Health Fair that took place in Solidaridad Social, one of the poorest zones in the urban area of Mexicali, which he attended with the State Health Secretary M.D. Guillermo Trejo Dozal. After almost 10 years of the beginning of this serious problem, which was originally “ignored” by authorities, the last State Administration admitted the existence of the problem and due to the people’s perception that there was not too much done to fight and eliminate the problem, Vega assured that “we want to get to a Zero Death Rate regarding this Rickets issue”. Vega said that the stray dog problem in Mexicali, carrying the brown tick, which is the vector of this severe disease, is a City Council problem in which the State supports and works in coordination with Mexicali Mayor, where the State came up with a City Mapping in order to locate and attack the areas with the biggest Rickets risks. Rickets has become a serious Public Health issue, which has caused deaths according to the following table 2013   90   cases 14 deaths 2014   80   cases 24 deaths 2015 122   cases 27 deaths 2016   27   cases  9  deaths Governor Vega announced a 4 million 212 thousand pesos investment for Sanitary Operatives, with the purchase of several vehicles, among them two Mobile Surgery Rooms and two “Dog Pound” pick ups, and several other motor vehicles which will operate to attack Rickets and will hopefully reduce the problem which has become one of the most serious health problems for Baja Californian inhabitants. A restless search for excellence allowed Alexia Citlali Moreno Medina to compete for Mexico in Rio 2016 Olympics Gymnastics, the most important sports competition in the world, and Mexicali Mayor Jaime Rafael Díaz Ochoa received her visit in office. The gymnast and her father, Octavio Moreno visited the Mayor’s Office where Díaz Ochoa end the Family Development Patronage, Sonia Carrillo, expressed their pride and satisfaction for Moreno’s work in Rio 2016, Brazil Olympics. Mayor Díaz pointed out that Alexa Moreno’s achievements in Rio as well as in previous tournaments make Mexicali proud, and her lifetime dedication to this sport has allowed her to be among the elite of the greatest gymnasts in the world. “You lifted Mexico’s name very high, I am sure that your parents and trainers support motivated you to reach the Olympics and with the same emotion we rooted for you from this, your hometown, all along the competition”, said Díaz Ochoa. BAJA POST NEWSROOM Due to Mexico’s pitiful performance in Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games, Federal Congresswoman Rosario Rodriguez, from Baja California, submitted a bill, in the Nation’s Senate, to ask for minimal requirements for those in charge of the National Commission of Sports and Physical Culture (Conade in Spanish) in order to “develop alternatives which may allow to improve the development and performance of Mexican athletes by means of an adequate direction from Mexico’s main sports organism”. Rodriguez presides the  Public Education Services Commission in the House of Representatives and said that, to achieve her proposal, Article 20 of the General Law of Physical Culture and Sports, must be reformed, she said that CONADE Commissioner must pass certain filters and basic requirements to have an adequate performance in the position, since the current Commissioner, Alfredo Castillo, didn’t go through any kind of filters or assessment , he simply was   designed by President Peña, and  it has been proven that he was not the ideal  choice for National Sports Commisioner. Mr. Castillo has no experience or background whatsoever regarding Sports Administration, and with a dubious police labor history, it’s amazing (to say the east) that President Peña appointed him as Sports Commissioner.
